Tu B’Shvat (the Jewish Environmental Holiday)

February 5, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm PST

Free

Beyt Tikkun will celebrate Tu B’Shvat (the Jewish environmental holiday) from 6 to 7 pm Pacific Time this Sunday (Feb 5) with a Tu B’Shvat Seder (on zoom only)

We are aware that the celebration of the environment has been turned into a feel-good event rather than mobilizing to address the actual crisis of our environment that gets more and more dangerous every year. So this year, while following some of the traditions, we will put more emphasis on the fundamental changes that are needed to protect the environment.

Our tradition is to have the following fruit:

  1. Fruit that is hard on the outside and on the inside (for example, nuts or coconuts and accompanied by white grape juice or white wine)
  2. Soft fruit with hard center or pits like plums, peaches, dates, cherries, and peaches accompanied by white grape juice or wine with a dash of red wine or grape juice
  3. Soft all the way thru like strawberries and with red grape juice or wine with a dash of white

Don’t worry if you don’t have these fruits or juices or wines–even without them, this ceremony and the explanations by Rabbi Lerner and Rabbi Zavis will make it an hour well spent.
