The prophecy of a brighter future lies at the heart of Judaism, and surely helps shape the best of our practice. It is a theme running through Jewish texts from the book of Genesis on down. Addressing key portions from the prophets, Talmud, and medrash, the oral Torah class will begin tracing some of the threads in the messianic tradition, including peace, universalism, justice, and the role of an individual messiah.

Our instructor, Garry Koenigsberg, is a Melamed, a teacher of Jewish “technology” -- technology that students can use for their personal exploration and connections with tradition. Garry has taught a series of very popular classes at Beyt Tikkun and other synagogues throughout the Bay Area; there's more info about him at www.matzoh.net/melamed.htm.
